FPA was retained by the County of Essex to creatively design a concept for the carousel at the Turtle Back Zoo. FPA took the challenge and developed the concept improvements consisting of a carousel, a carousel house, a comfort station, ample patio space for picnicking, a boardwalk, and an upper picnic pavilion.
The carousel was designed with replica endangered animal species as the riding components. The enclosed carousel house was designed to represent the Jersey Shore architecture style. The twelve-sided figure can be accessed on all sides via the French door system. Above the French doors, there is a ring of stain glass, each panel showing a different aquatic creature found in the Atlantic Ocean.
