The Turtle Back Zoo Education Center is the new entranceway into the Turtle Back Zoo. The Parking area has been designed to receive eight tour buses at a time, eliminating safety concerns and enhancing the aesthetics of the main entrance. The education center is approximately 14,000 sq. ft., which consists of a main reception area, a five window ticket sales area, four class rooms, a docent locker room, restrooms, garage, animal holding areas, new office space for the TBZ staff and a picnic area. The picnic area is located on the east side of the building and it allows the visitors to sit and watch the new adventure ropes course. The plumbing, heating, lighting and electrical are all state of the art technology selected to meet and exceed the current codes. Outside the front of the building, a large plaza area was designed to receive all the guests from the buses and parking deck. The plaza area consists of stamped concrete with animal prints and a giant mosaic tile snake. The snake was installed to be a seating area for waiting visitors. FPA was retained to prepare the design documents for the site/civil, landscape, limited topographic survey, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical and plumbing.
