FPA was retained to provide structural engineering services for a new two-story 19,400-square-foot Police Station for the City of Garfield in Bergen County, New Jersey. The facility consists of office space, holding cells, a covered vehicle sally port, weapons storage, and file/evidence storage.

The building is constructed utilizing steel moment frames to resist the code required seismic and wind lateral loads. The superstructure consists of concrete slabs on metal deck that is supported by steel beams, steel girders, and steel columns. The roof structure is composed of light-gage trusses to provide and aesthetically pleasing look. The exterior walls systems consist of precast panels. Special detailing was provided in the areas of the building that required ballistic resistance for weapons storage, and to provide secure areas for prisoner holding and transport. The superstructure is supported by reinforced concrete spread footings.
