FPA was retained by Monmouth County to provide the necessary engineering services for the replacement of Bridge MT-4, on Broadway over Comptons Creek in the Township of Middletown, Monmouth County, NJ. The project is currently under construction and includes the removal of a 3-span timber and reinforced concrete structure and the construction of a single span, 46-foot-long, prestressed concrete voided slab bridge with composite deck founded on reinforced concrete abutments supported on 12” diameter steel pipe piles. Approach roadway embankments consisting of an anchored sheet pile wall system were utilized to reduce environmental impacts. The widening of the bridge resulted in the filling of coastal wetlands, which will require mitigation. FPA successfully mitigated coastal wetlands impacts by proposing credit purchase from a freshwater wetlands mitigation bank, thereby, avoiding the need for onsite mitigation.
FPA prepared the required contract plans and specifications in accordance with Monmouth County standards. The plans included construction plans, topographic maps, grading plans, erosion control plans, traffic control plans, profiles, cross-sections, and typical sections. FPA also prepared NJDEP and Soil Erosion permit applications.
