FPA provided final design services for the improvements to ½ mile of River Road in Piscataway Township near its intersection with I-287. The project also included replacement of the traffic signal at the intersection of River Road & Plainfield Avenue.
The improvements included the widening of River Road to provide two thru lanes and a dedicated left turn lane at Plainfield Avenue, as well as providing shoulders throughout the remainder of the project limits. New sidewalk was added along the east side of River Road and a new 10ft wide mixed use path was installed Johnson Park. A series of retaining walls up to 10ft in height were installed to stabilize existing steep slopes adjacent to the roadway.
New roadway drainage systems were installed, including a series of three subsurface detention basins with manufactured water quality treatment devices and the replacement of an existing pipe culvert crossing and concrete headwall. NJDEP freshwater wetland and flood hazard area permits were obtained.
