Borough of Carteret, New Jersey

Roosevelt Avenue Intersection Improvements

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) provided traffic engineering and final design for the upgrades to two intersections along Roosevelt Avenue in Carteret. The intersections are located at the NJ Turnpike Interchange 12 Ramp and at Peter J. Sica Industrial Highway, approximately 300 ft apart.

The improvements include full replacement of the two existing traffic signals, roadway resurfacing, new signing and striping, and replacement of sidewalks and curb ramps for ADA compliance. The end of the existing concrete parapet leading to the NJ Turnpike Ramp was modified to accommodate new MASH compliant guiderail.

Decorative stamped concrete sidewalks were also included to match the Carteret Borough streetscape as this area is a gateway to the community. In addition, the project incorporated a monument for a fallen NJ State Trooper, for which FPA provided design of the surrounding landscaping.

Because of the close proximity of the intersections to each other and the NJ Turnpike ramps, a detailed traffic analysis was completed to develop a coordinated traffic signal timing between the signals to avoid delays along the corridor and onto the NJ Turnpike ramps. NJTA approval of the proposed traffic analysis and traffic control plans was required.

FPA also provided full time construction inspection and administration services, as well as materials testing.
