Interns at FPA: John Albrecht
As National Intern Day approaches, we’re continuing our spotlight series highlighting some of the students currently in the Internship Program at French & Parrello Associates (FPA). National Intern Day, held on July 27th is used as an opportunity to acknowledge and recognize the future leaders of our world. Through this spotlight series, we mean to highlight our appreciation for the Interns at FPA and all the hard work they do.
The following is a Q&A with John Albrecht, an Intern in FPA’s Structural Department. John is currently a Senior at Stevens Institute of Technology where he is majoring in Civil Engineering.
What has been your greatest takeaway during your Internship at FPA so far?
The greatest takeaway from my internship so far is the application of theoretical knowledge learned in school. Learning equations from textbooks and listening to lectures can only do so much. This summer I’ve seen all that knowledge put into use in real world scenarios and projects.
What would you say is the best thing about interning at FPA?
The best thing about interning at FPA this summer has been the exposure to real projects and industry practices. It is always interesting to see structures modeled on a desktop, erect on a real site. And learning the process behind how a building goes from an idea to a place of gathering has been invaluable.
What career path do you hope to take after graduation, and why?
After graduation, I plan to pursue my Professional Engineering License while working on building design and structural engineering.
