Can you start by telling us about your role at FPA?
Absolutely. While my colleagues focus on designing complex engineering projects, I develop comprehensive marketing strategies to support the continued growth and success of the company. As a Professional Certified Marketer, I balance organization, creative thinking, and leadership. I direct a full-service staff of marketing professionals who specialize in brand management, communications, business development, proposal coordination, and event and trade show planning.
What does a typical day at FPA look like for you?
One thing I love about my job at FPA is that every day presents exciting new challenges. One day my focus may be on developing new digital marketing strategies, and the next day I might be working with my team on a complex, multidisciplinary project proposal. While my daily mission is to keep the department running smoothly and provide marketing support to the whole company, my granular focus can change day to day, or even hour to hour.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Everything! I felt drawn to many different career paths, but one common thread was finding a profession that would allow me to spread my creative wings. Once I began my career in marketing for an engineering firm over a decade ago, I realized I had found a space that allowed me to apply my creativity with lots of room for professional growth.
You graduated with a Master of Arts in Education from Monmouth University. How do you use your skills and training in your current role?
My skills and training in leadership help me guide my department with what I call a “whole team approach.” I draw strengths from each team member to create comprehensive, integrated marketing strategies to achieve the firm’s business objectives. Being able to work collaboratively with a team is another way my role as Marketing Director gives me joy. I learned early on that I thrive in a collaborative environment, and over the years, I’ve learned how best to drive that collaborative process as a team leader to achieve successful outcomes.
Each member of my team keeps a FPA-branded, “We’re Number One” foam finger on hand, which we all pull out to celebrate big project wins. There’s a piece of each of us in every campaign, successful event, or big project pursuit. We are all invested in every project, so we all celebrate every success together, and it keeps us energized for the next challenge.
How has FPA helped foster your professional success?
I work in an environment that encourages out-of-the-box thinking, creativity, and innovation. Nothing is off the table. You want to work with people who will listen to your big, crazy ideas and then ask, “How can we help?”. That’s the incredible environment I work in.
