Interns at FPA: Jovan Rivera
As National Intern Day approaches, we’re continuing our spotlight series highlighting some of the students currently in the Internship Program at French & Parrello Associates (FPA). National Intern Day, held on July 27th, is used as an opportunity to acknowledge and recognize the future leaders of our world. Through this spotlight series, we mean to highlight our appreciation for the Interns at FPA and all the hard work they do.
The following is a Q&A with Jovan Rivera, an Intern in FPA’s Geotechnical Department and Materials Testing Lab. Jovan is currently a Sophomore at Brookdale Community College and is majoring in Structural Engineering.
What has been your greatest takeaway during your Internship at FPA so far?
My greatest takeaway so far is the continuous support from others to explain from the beginning to the finish of a project as pieces of a puzzle. The confidence I have through learning from others has allowed me to move quickly in my position thus far. Additionally, every detail, every word, and everything documented matters in the end, which I love seeing.
What would you say is the best thing about interning at FPA?
The best thing about interning at FPA is the different mindset I have now developed through looking at various details or real-life projects through a different scope that I didn’t have beforehand. As a nineteen-year-old interning at FPA, this can boost my career more than I can imagine right now.
What career path do you hope to take after graduation, and why?
After graduating with my Structural Engineering Master’s degree down the road, I would love to see myself in a Structural Engineering team in a company working on various projects. After some slight insight on learning about the Structural Team here at FPA, I can see myself in the future wanting to join their team.
