Mannino Park

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) was retained by the Township of Old Bridge to provide professional design services for three new baseball fields and a parking lot at Mannino Park. The project area is a popular athletic location for all ages, and the new fields only further enhance the park experience.

Each of the three new fields are sodded and sized differently in accordance with particular leagues including T-ball, Minor, and Senior. All three fields are irrigated, have polyvinyl perimeter fencing and backing, bull pens, clay infield and pitchers mound, bases, home plate, pitchers rubber, dugouts, aluminum bleachers for spectators, player benches, a score board for each field, and lighting.

The parking area consists of full depth asphalt, striping, granite block curb, concrete sidewalks, site lighting and landscaping. Walkways were constructed to create a direct connection from the field to the new parking area. The sidewalk is also located on the perimeter of the parking area closet to the park. These sidewalks are ADA compliand and also illuminated to meet the IES design standards for active recreation parks.

In accordance with State and local stormwater regulations, our team designed the athletic fields to accommodate rainfall intensities while still allowing an efficient use of the delegated space. The fields themselves act as their own individual basins through the use of perimeter drains surrounding the fields. These drains are constructed in stone trenches, which promotes the infiltration of stormwater into the soil underlying the fields. Where larger intensity storms occur, these perimeter drains discharge to a bioretention basin downstream of the parking lot. As a whole, the stormwater management system was designed to meet the Green Infrastructure Best Management Practices followed both in New Jersey and across the country where the primary goal is to manage stormwater as close to the source as possible.
