French & Parrello Associates (FPA) designed multi-purpose synthetic turf fields at Vailsburg Park in Newark, NJ. The park had four softball fields that were being under-utilized by residents, and the County wanted to provide new amenities. The goal was for these new amenities to be used year-round, while also being able to withstand severe rain events. The following amenities were added to the park:

  • A new synthetic turf baseball field with a center field of 325 feet
  • A new Softball field with a center field of 200 feet
  • Both fields were designed with metal canopy dugouts and three tier bleachers for spectators
  • A new 8 foot lane rubberized track with a sprinting lane
  • A new synthetic turf football/soccer field in the middle of the track
  • All new fencing around the perimeters of the athletic fields
  • New synthetic turf on the existing little league field
  • State-of-the-art scoreboards
  • New athletic lighting
  • New milled and paved pathways for visitors to gain access to all the fields
  • All new benches and trash receptacles along the pathways
  • New shade and evergreen trees
