Pitney Park
Pitney Park
French & Parrello Associates (FPA) was pleased to work with Mendham Township on the development of Pitney Park located along Cold Hill Road. The improvements involved the conversion of the last remaining parcel of the Pitney Estates into a passive recreational park. The park includes a combination of walking trails which wind throughout the property preserving many of the historic elements and landscape into the experience. The users of the park are able to walk along the preserved evergreen forest, wind within the hardwood forest, and stop off at the central lawn to throw down a blanket. As a centerpiece of the site, the property maintained the historic walled garden, which is actively maintained by members of the community who are enthusiastic about the property and preserving its beauty. While the project did not trigger the need for stormwater management basins, multiple sunken meadows were incorporated into the design to enhance the beauty, sustainability, and stormwater characteristics of the site. All surfaces within the property were developed with previous pavement to provide ADA accessibility and minimize stormwater impacts.
The project was funded through separate grants from the Morris County Park Commission and from Green Acres. FPA worked with the Township on the original grant applications, as well as the final funding requests. Through these grants, the Township was able to successfully create this park at minimal cost to the municipality.
FPA responsibilities on this project included the preparation of the grant applications, engineering design, stormwater design, project permitting, project bidding, construction administration, and submission of the grant fund requests.
