Pompton Valley Rail Trail

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) was retained by Morris County to provide Construction Management, Construction Inspection, and Materials Testing services for this $18.98 million federally funded construction project that commenced in April 2022.

The project, formerly known as the New York Susquehanna & Western (NYS&W) Shared Use Path, includes construction of a shared-use path beginning at River Drive in Pequannock and ending adjacent to the Mountain View Train Station in Wayne. It re-purposes approximately five miles of the abandoned NYS&W Railway track into a ten-foot-wide pervious trail. Key project elements include a 2,000-foot-long pile-supported elevated segment, a pre-fabricated truss bridge, reuse of an abandoned railroad truss bridge, retaining wall installation, and the addition of bridge rail, guide rail, concrete barrier curb, and striping.

All elevated sections, including the 2,000-foot pile-supported segment, 284-foot truss bridge, and 34-foot truss bridge, feature impact-resistant railing composed of weldment posts and/or full deck penetration anchors. The project also includes over 4,500 linear feet of guide rail, more than 10,000 linear feet of various styled fencing, over 4,000 linear feet of traffic striping, over 4,500 linear feet of concrete barrier curb, and substantial plantings and trail features such as kiosks, trash receptacles, and benches.
