FPA Wins Multiple NJSME Project of the Year Awards
French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is proud to announce that two of the firm’s projects have earned 1st Place Awards from the New Jersey Society of Municipal Engineers (NJSME). The NJSME Project of the Year Awards recognize excellence and innovation in municipal engineering, honoring projects that make meaningful contributions to the health, safety, and overall well-being of their communities.
The South Amboy Ferry Terminal Project, led by Steven A. Tardy, PE, has been selected as the 1st place recipient of the Community Enhancement Award. The recently completed South Amboy Ferry Terminal Project encompassed a plan area of approximately 12 acres and included environmental remediation as well as the construction of waterfront improvements, access roadways, curbing, sidewalks, parking, a pavilion structure, landscaping, historical accommodations, site lighting, water, sewer, gas, electric and communication services. Now fully operational, the terminal provides direct passenger ferry service to lower Manhattan, with convenient connections to the nearby NJ TRANSIT South Amboy Station. New access roadways, commuter parking, waterfront walkways, and ADA-accessible pedestrian connections accommodate passengers arriving by car, bus, bicycle, or on foot, establishing a multimodal transportation hub connecting ferry, rail, vehicular, and pedestrian travel.
Additionally, the Freehold Township MS4 Project, led by Christopher Nourry, GISP, has been selected as the 1st place recipient of the GIS & Data Integration Excellence Award. Utilizing ArcGIS Field maps in conjunction with web mapping applications deployed in ArcGIS Enterprise, 94.2 miles of conveyance, 3,647 inlets, 287 outfalls, 455 manholes, 31 groundwater discharge points, and 92 stormwater basins were mapped for Freehold Township. The completed inventory and mapping brought Freehold Township into compliance with the mapping requirements of its NJDEP Tier A MS4 permit and gave the Township a defensible, field-verified record of its stormwater infrastructure. Beyond satisfying the immediate permit requirement, the project transformed the Township’s stormwater inventory into a practical resource for ongoing asset management, inspection, and regulatory compliance.
These awards reflect FPA’s continued commitment to delivering innovative engineering solutions that address the evolving needs of New Jersey’s municipalities. Both projects demonstrate the value of collaboration, technical expertise, and thoughtful design in improving public infrastructure and providing lasting benefits to the communities they serve.
Congratulations to both project teams on their shared success!
