Veterans Community Park

In the 2016 update of their Master Plan, the Township of Randolph’s Parks and Recreation Department determined that there was a need for a community park that was not solely designed around active athletic fields. A goal was crafted to create a park that would invite members of the community to partake in other, non-sport recreation such as township events, light exercise, educational programs, gardening, walking and other uses. The creation of this type of park would help provide recreation for all Township citizens.

During the design phase, features which were not yet available at other Township parks, were identified and incorporated into what is now known as Veterans Community Park. Among these features are:

  • Paved walking path loops, with lighting
  • A trail that connects to nearby Heistein Park
  • Two pickleball courts
  • A 168-bed Community Garden
  • An Amphitheater and Pavilion
  • A large lawn that can host special events.
  • Additional features include:
    • Native landscaping and lighting
    • Comfort station
    • A memorial area for veterans recognition and Township ceremonies
    • 100 paved parking spots, 35 gravel parking spots, and onsite grass overflow for 250+ vehicles

A Community Park for the Community

The land that the park sits on now was originally farmland belonging to Rosenfarb Farms. Prior to the Master Plan in 2016, a variety of alternate uses were considered for the land, ranging from a golf course to more athletic fields. However, in order to ensure that the Township’s citizens needs were being met, they relied on feedback from the community to help define the amenities now available at Veterans Community Park.

Thus, from beginning to end, community has been the theme of this park. Even when it came to naming the park, the Township included the residents input by sending out a survey to get ideas and ultimately decide on a name. The residents of Randolph Township chose Veterans Community Park as their desired name, representing not only how this park would bring its residents together but as a dedication to all those in the community that have served in the armed forces.

Since it’s dedication in October 2020, Veterans Community Park has been largely embraced by the Randolph community, with the community garden being the most popular feature.
