City of South Amboy and NY Waterway Launch Ferry Service

SOUTH AMBOY, NJ – Ferry service officially started from the City of South Amboy to New York City this week. On Monday, October 30th, a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony, hosted by the City and NY Waterway, was held to commemorate the occasion.

The new ferry service provides residents and commuters direct service from South Amboy to Downtown NYC (Brookfield Place) and to Midtown (West 39th Street). Free local shuttles run between Sayreville and South Amboy and the ferry landing at 100 Radford Ferry Road in South Amboy

“This is a great day for all involved.” said Fred A. Henry, Mayor of The City of South Amboy. “I would especially like to thank NY Waterway for their cooperation in getting this temporary site opened and beginning business. This is something that we have waited quite some time for, and I am very excited about the ceremonial launch on October 30th.”

Ferries are operating from a temporary floating dock, while the permanent terminal is under construction. Construction is expected to be completed in roughly 18 months. Visit https://www.nywaterway.com/southamboy.aspx for information, schedules, and fares.

FPA is providing engineering and design services for the South Amboy Ferry Terminal project. The facility will be located off of Radford Ferry Road in South Amboy, NJ, with the goal being to provide residents and commuters an intermodal transportation facility with access to rail, bus and ferry service, all conveniently located near the Garden State Parkway.

The goals are to provide a safe, efficient, and attractive transportation facility, while paying tribute to the site history. Programming aspects of the ferry terminal building will include ticketing and administrative offices, waiting areas, food concession, commercial vendor spaces and restrooms, as well as significant information technology, privacy and security elements. This project is part of a transformational redevelopment of the Raritan Bay Waterfront, with the City of South Amboy at the heart of the activities.
